Entstehung:

Zeitpunkt und Umstände der Entstehung sind unbekannt. Der Arientext "My Laura will you trust the seas" stammt aus der komischen Oper The Agreeable Surprise von John O'Keeffe, uraufgeführt am 3. September 1781 in Theatre Royal, Haymarket (London) mit Musik von Samuel Arnold. Die in The Massachusetts Magazine (1791, Vol. III) abgedruckte, Gluck zugeschriebene Vertonung der Arie ist mit der entsprechenden Komposition Arnolds nicht identisch.
